Aside from the next Google Nexus smart phone made by HTC that is codenamed as Sailfish, Google is also set to release a Pixel phone that is speculated to be an iPhone 7 killer.

Reports reveal that Google will be launching two new Nexus devices with codenames Marlin and Sailfish and also a Google-branded device that would go head-to-head against the upcoming iPhone 7.

Google is said to be “in discussions with mobile operators about releasing a Google-branded phone that will extend the company’s move into hardware,” The Telegraph reported. With this, Google will be adopting the philosphy of Apple's iPhones by taking control of hardware.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai hinted about this as they take more control over design, software and manufacturing. Pichai also added that the next Nexus phones will not merely run on Android and that Google is not interested in controlling the phone's hardware side for the new Google-branded handset.

Its focus on the new phone's hardware was also indicated when it hired former Motorola CEO Rick Osterloh who worked as the head of the new hardware division which was created in the company back in April.

The giant company is also reportedly annoyed that many customers only consider iPhone as a premium handset which challenged them to make a premium Google device to compete with the iPhone and other high-end smart phones.

“They are concerned that Android is fragmenting, that it needs to become a more controlled platform,” said CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood, according to BGR. “I think they’ll seek to control it more, more like Apple.”

Although it is not yet clear on how this device will differ from the Nexus phones and its name is not yet revealed, the device is said to be launched at the end of the year.

But of course, although a new device is set for release, Google will not abandon its Nexus line and will be releasing two successors of LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei 6P.

Specifications of the Google Sailfish was also revealed with a 5-inch display, Quad-core 2.0GHz 64-bit processor, 4GB RAM, 2770mAh Battery, 32GB Internal Storage and it may run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
