Gadget lovers may be anticipating the release of Apple's latest smartphone model, the iPhone 7. However, Apple fans should look forward to the iPhone 8 that is expected to be released in 2017, which will reportedly feature a radical new design and new hardware specs.

Details on the expected smartphone model that Apple will release in 2017 has been sparse. However, fan speculations have indicated that the Cupertino-based company may decide to introduce major changes to the popular handset given its upcoming tenth anniversary, PC Advisor reported. The iPhone model that will be released in 2017 has yet to be named, although several reports have temporarily dubbed it the iPhone 8.

Typically, Apple releases its new iPhone models around September. However, with the milestone iPhone anniversary in 2017, the tech company may decide to go for a different launch date. The very first iPhone was released in June 2007. It is still unsure if Apple will launch a new smartphone during the handset's anniversary month.

Apart from the release date, Apple may also opt to do a special upgrade for the iPhone 8. Radical design and hardware upgrades were some of the speculated changes, as indicated in the same report. One of the design rumors surrounding the iPhone 8 is that it will feature an OLED screen that will stretch to the edges of the phone. Another speculation is that Apple may use a glass body for one of its upcoming iPhone models that will reportedly feature an effect that only a single sheet of glass was utilized for the unit.

Other upgrades that fans expect to see in the iPhone 8 is a TouchID fingerprint scanner that would be placed on the OLED screen. This may potentially remove the home button that has been a typical feature in many iPhones. The enhanced OLED screen is also expected to make the iPhone 8 slimmer yet have a longer battery life.

The appearance of an edge-to-edge OLED screen is an iPhone specification leak that was also mentioned in a Forbes report. The said report featured a list of both confirmed and rumored enhancements for Apple products. The tech company is also said to be planning "bigger design changes" for iPhone's anniversary year.
