After the significant success of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card, EVGA plans to release yet another budget-friendly card dubbed GeForce GTX 1060. The card is expected to rival the likes of AMD's Radeon RX 480, which is the current pick for gamers among budget-friendly video cards.
According to WCC Tech, GeForce GTX 1060 name is already confirmed as it appears on the cooler shroud as per the leaked photos. The shroud itself is similar to the ones on the previously launched GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070 cards.
The design of GeForce GTX 1060 will provide a cheap graphics card while at the same time offering great performance. It will embrace the reference Pascal display configuration of three DVI 1.4, single HDMI 2.0b and a single DVI port.
According to Bench Life, GTX 1060 is expected to arrive in 3GB and 6GB variants and will be the first graphics card to feature NVIDIA's most recent GP106 GPU architecture. The 3GB model will enter the market at a price range of $250, with the higher version going for $300 or more.
On the other hand, AMD's Radeon RX 480, which was launched in 4GB and 8GB versions, is expected to arrive at the same time as GTX 1060 in July. Its variants will sell at $200 and $240 respectively and will have a remarkable capability of handling 1080p gaming along with a fine performance of 2560 × 1440 resolution.
Rumors indicate that with AMD's aggressive push into mainstream and midrange sectors, Nvidia plans to use GeForce GTX 1060 to venture and compete in the same markets. But gamers will have to select the superior card in terms of price and performance for either of the cards to win the GPU battle.
Given that the RX 480 scored half as great as the GTX 1080 in past 3D tests, GTX 1060 will have to prove worthy of performance to beat it. Also to note, RX 480 performs better than NVIDIA's GTX 970, which still costs more than the projected price of the former.
Hence, both the price and memory specs of GTX 1060 may set it back against the RX 480, but gaming enthusiasts will have to wait and determine the true performance of the two when they arrive.
