Lucha Underground star Prince Puma, more famously known as Ricochet, has reportedly finished up his deal with the One Three Media owned-promotion. According to the latest rumors, Ricochet wants to sign with the WWE and it could happen as early as next year.
The 27-year-old high-flyer is one of the best wrestlers not in the WWE but he has been on their radar earlier this year. He recently finished up taping LU's Season 3 that will air later this year or early 2017, Daily DDT reported.
It should be noted that Ricochet cannot sign with the WWE due to some contractual obligations he has with LU. His contract prevents him from working with a different televised wrestling promotion six months after his character's last appearance in the show
Season 2 of LU is currently airing on The El Rey Network and if Season 3 airs in 2017, Ricochet can't possibly sign with the WWE until later that year. However, he can still work in other independent wrestling promotions such as Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
On the other hand, it seems like Ricochet may have a strategy to use against LU and sign with the WWE in 2017. According to Wrestle Zone, he will not be wrestling under the Prince Puma character in the WWE or NXT.
The WWE will likely give him a new ring name and he would not be wrestling under a mask. Ricochet will have an out to say that wrestling in the WWE under a new gimmick is not going to be marketing issue with LU.
If ever Ricochet signs with the WWE, he would be an instant hit at NXT. It is also the perfect time to have him there because the brand extension will result in a lot of call ups. Stars like Finn Balor and Austin Aries will be on the main roster soon while Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura may be called up later in the year.
As much as WWE wants to produce their very own star, they really have to look for talent on independent promotions. Ricochet is one of those wrestlers that have the potential to become a big superstar.
