"Game of Thrones" Season 6 wrapped up with episode 10 titled "The Winds of Winter," the same title for George R.R Martin's sixth book in "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Now, fans are expecting "Game of Thrones" Season 7 which is a year away.

There are high chances that Martin will release his novel before HBO's "Game of Thrones" Season 7 premiere. The author dubbed "The Winds of Winter" the "Son of Kong" because it is inevitable. Martin released "A Dance with Dragons" back in 2011, and now all the attention is on "The Winds of Winter."

The release date for "The Winds of Winter" may have been closer after Martin completed "A Dance with Dragons." In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the wordsmith teased that he was riding a hot streak. Ideas were flowing and Martin was writing the sixth novel in "A Song of Ice and Fire" with ease.

"I was so into it. I was pushing so hard that I was writing very well," Martin said. "I should have just gone on from there, because I was so into it and it was moving so fast then."

In 2015, hopes were renewed for the release of "The Winds of Winter," especially after the author cancelled appearances and focused on completing the novel. In fact, it was believed that "The Winds of Winter" would come out before HBO's "Game of Thrones" Season 6.

While Martin was optimistic, another year passed without releasing the book. Before "Game of Thrones" Season 6 debut, the author sat down with his publishers to find a way of getting "The Winds of Winter" on the shelves before the April airdate.

Although publishers proposed a Halloween date, Martin required an extension. The final deadline was set for March 2016, but the author did not deliver.

Six months into 2016, "The Winds of Winter" is not yet out. The author mentioned in passing about "Son of Kong" via his official blog, but there were no specific details on its completion. On the contrary, he premiered a new chapter from the point of view of Aeron "Damphair' Greyjoy at the end of May.

According to Martin, there is almost a year before "Game of Thrones" Season 7 debuts, indicating that the novel will release before then. Here is a sneak peek for more information on the sixth installment in "A Song of Ice and Fire":
