More leaks regarding the GTX 1060 are now surfacing as the mobile versions for the new budget card has been spotted along with a strange GTX 1050 Ti which is also for laptops.
Before the release of the AMD Radeon RX 480, a Reddit post showed that an alleged photo of the GTX 1060 card seemingly originating from Hong Kong. Now, there are new leaks regarding the budget Pascal card from NVIDIA but it is not the desktop version.
Based on the new reports, the new mobile cards will be the successors of the GTX 950M and GTX 960M mobile GPUs. Obviously, they won't be as powerful as the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 mobile GPUs that have also been leaked several days ago.
The leaks seemed to be timely considering that the RX 480's release will get the attention of the low to mid-end range budget-conscious PC buyers. There have been speculations that the un-announced card will be NVIDIA's trump card against the Polaris 10 line with the RX 480, RX 470 and the RX 460.
NVIDIA's GTX 1060 and GTX 1050 Ti for laptops will be using the same GDDR5 VRAM, LaptopMedia has learned. The former will have a more powerful 192-bit 6GB while the latter will have the 128-bit 4GB memory.
It is expected that there will be significant performance improvements over the GTX 950M and the GTX 960M laptop GPUs with the new 16nm FinFET Pascal architecture. It may also generate less heat and consume less battery power with the expected lower power draw.
The sources of LaptopMedia confirmed that the GTX 1060 mobile version has the N17E-G1 codename while the GTX 1050 Ti has the NI7P-G1 label, MobiPicker reported. There has been no confirmation yet from NVIDIA themselves as they seem to be waiting for the RX 480 hype to settle down.
Earlier reports have already claimed that the GTX 1060 desktop version will be available in both 3GB and 6GB variants. The mobile version rumor then makes sense considering that they have about the same specs, but the lack of GTX 1050 Ti details for the desktop counterpart is weird.
NVIDIA is reportedly planning to announce their mobile lineup for Pascal cards which will include the GTX 1060 and the GTX 1050 Ti on August. There are no details yet regarding the unveiling for the desktop cards but they could be revealed earlier than their mobile counterparts.
