Looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel for HBO original series "True Detective," as after receiving a wave of negative reviews for its second season and grim chances of a third season, it appears that there's renewed hope for the show.
Following Michael Lombardo's exit as HBO's president of programming, it was rumored that his successor, Casey Bloys, may opt to produce a new show from "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto, instead of breathing new life to the crime anthology. The network admitted that rushing "True Detective" Season 2 was a big mistake for them, considering that the first season was "something that Nic Pizzolatto had been thinking about, gestating, for a long period of time," Esquire reported.
"True Detective" Season 2, although packed with star-studded performances coming from Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, failed to match the success of its predecessor.
Have the fans seen the last of "True Detective"? Not exactly, as there is still a chance HBO may pick it up for another season, but on different terms, such as having Pizzolatto team up with a group of writers or enlist a new showrunner.
Moreover, a photo recently posted by actress Olivia Munn, with a rather conspicuous caption, has led fans to believe that "True Detective" Season 3 is indeed in the works.
The photo showed Munn with stars T.J. Miller, Jillian del Toro and Jason Bateman, and was captioned "True Detective Season 3 #officemasparty." Although no news about a season renewal has been confirmed, Munn's Instagram photo has certainly caused a lot of buzz and rekindled interest in the show.

"I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights," McConaughey told Vanity Fair. "I was a happy man when I made that for six months, because I was on my own island."
McConaughey earned an Emmy Award nomination for his role in "True Detective" Season 1.
