After the sales of Chinese President Xi Jinping's latest book on political governance have reached the multi-millions, a Cambodian conference event was held on Feb. 2, 2015, to provide a forum for the announcement that the 500-page book will be translated into the Khmer language in the near future.
Called "The Governance of China," Xi's book has already been translated into English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese, which has led to the sale of 225,000 copies outside of the Chinese market.
The celebratory event was attended by Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister and Cabinet Minister Sok An, as well as a large group of Cambodian students, academics and senior officials.
Khlot Thyda, the president of the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC), was in attendance, as was Chinese Ambassadress Bu Jianguo.
The ceremony was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, in partnership with the RAC. During the event, the royal academy's president explained to the media:
". . . the conference provides not only a valuable opportunity for government officials and academics to gain knowledge on the governance of China, but also serves as a forum to exchange ideas and experiences with experienced researchers from Cambodia, China and Pakistan."
"The Governance of China," which consists of 79 of the Chinese president's speeches, correspondence and communications from his two-year period in the top position, has renewed global interest in "socialism with Chinese characteristics."
Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg has read the book and even bought copies for his staff, contributing to the book's rising influence on people to read the Chinese leader's key thoughts on political matters.
