"Supernatural" Season 12 will see Jensen Ackles reprising his role as Dean Winchester after admitting that he is taking a pace for himself this year. Ackles, who used to direct one episode per season, is taking the front seat to act on the small screen.

Ackles has helmed five episodes in five seasons. This time, the "Days Of Our Lives" star is taking an off from directing, but not completely leaving The CW fantasy horror TV series.

"I just decided to take the first part of the season easy," Ackles told TV Line. "Twenty-three episodes [per season] is a long, long shoot, and I usually would direct the first episode that we would film."

Ackles added that he wanted to give himself a pace from directing this year. Although he did not specify why, there is a possibility that he will be concentrating first on acting as he is about to film a number of grueling scenes in "Supernatural" Season 12.

Dean and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) expressed a few of their wishes for the upcoming season. Padalecki revealed that he hope to have more onscreen interaction with Dean's best friend Castiel (Misha Collins).

Ackles mentioned that an idea of a purgatory sounds very interesting to revisit. He also revealed that he wanted to see the original format of the show, where a new monster could be seen every season.

Season 11 ended with the return of Dean and Sam's deceased mother, Mary (Samantha Smith) from the dead. Her return stirred some speculations among "Supernatural" fans on what will happen next to her character.

Before Mary's return, there was a rumor that John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will appear again in the series. However, the actor is currently involved in a number of projects that makes it hard for him to get back again to the show, according to TV Series Finale.

Ackles is having fun filming the remaining scenes of the upcoming season covering Men of Letters mythology that was introduced during the Season 11 finale episode. It will be seen on Oct. 13 on The CW.
