Microsoft wants to make things easier for their customers as they are now reportedly planning a trade-in or trade-up program for the Xbox One to the new Xbox Scorpio for next year.

This means that players who already own the original Xbox One would be able to get the new Xbox Scorpio at a significantly cheaper price at launch. There are no confirmations yet but some are speculating that the Xbox One S could also be part of the program as well.

The Redmond-based tech giant has already said that they are not planning to alienate the Xbox One users when the Xbox Scorpio launches as the games would be backwards compatible. However, recent reports have also claimed that there could still be Xbox Scorpio exclusives.

Gears of War 4 and Halo Wars 2 are expected to be compatible with both the Xbox One and the Xbox Scorpio, SegmentNext has learned. Of course, both games are expected to run at 4K and with better framerates on the latter.

Microsoft has been boasting the 4K capabilities of its Xbox Scorpio which is also the same thing that Sony is claiming with their upcoming PlayStation Neo. The Xbox Scorpio is expected to run with 6 TFLOPs of compute performance which they believe is enough to deliver "true 4K gaming."

If that is true, more Xbox One players will be tempted to trade-in their consoles for the new one. Xbox Services manager Dave McCarthy told the Daily Star that they are trying out partnerships with retailers in order to make the "transition" with regards to the Xbox One to Xbox Scorpio trade-in program "as smooth as possible," TweakTown reported.

Retailers do not have the confirmation yet but an Xbox One today can get as much as $100 in store credit on some shops. The Xbox One S could also be part of the program and it could garner more credits to be used for the Xbox Scorpio trade-in program next year.

More special offers are expected to surface as the launch of the Xbox Scorpio nears in 2017. For now, the Xbox One S is the console to beat in August as it is considered to be more powerful than the original Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
