After months of waiting, the creators of "Attack on Titan" Season 2 have released an official premiere date for the hit anime series.
It was recently announced that "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will be released in spring 2017. The announcement was also confirmed through Twitter, together with the first promotional poster for Season 2.
The poster shows a Colossus Titan attempting to break the wall while another titan faces him. Eren, Armin and Mikasa are on the ground ready to battle another titan.
"Attack on Titan" Season 2 was originally slated for release in November 2016. It was reported that one of the reasons why the animated series was delayed was because manga author Hajime Isayama and anime director Tetsuro Araki agreed that the manga must complete at least four story arcs before the anime series can enter into production.
So far, the manga version has completed two story arcs. Movie Pilot previously suggested that the series may focus on the "political situation" in X and Wall Rose, and conspiracy theory that connects that government to the birth of the titans. The story will move farther from the walled cities and towards the countryside as the characters fight for their survival.
As to the anime series, Wit Studio, which worked on the first season of "Attack on Titan," will be back for Season 2. According to Screen Rant, the voice cast in the first season will also reprise their roles in "Attack on Titan" Season 2. The staff also remains the same, except for Masashi Koizuka, who has been promoted to director, while Tetsuro Araki is elevated to chief director.
This announcement comes as great news for fans that have been waiting so long for the follow-up season of the critically-acclaimed anime series. Although fans were treated to the live-action adaption of "Attack on Titan" in 2015, the movie did not receive satisfactory reviews from fans.
"Attack on Titan" Season 1 aired in 2013. The 25-episode season ran from April to September. The series inspired two other compilation anime films that were released in 2014 and 2015. Its success also paved way for the creation of two spinoff manga: "Attack on Titan: No Regrets" and "Attack on Titan: Junior High."
