The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active has failed the water-resistance test that was done recently. Samsung claims that they have very few complaints in regards to the issue.
A recent commercial showed that the S7 edge was poured with champagne over it by hip-hop singer Lil Wayne, according to Consumer Reports. The commercial was supposed to prove that the smartphone was really resistant to water. However, the Active version of the S7 has given an opposite result after it was tested, which resulted in not getting listed in the publication's recommended phone models.
The phone manufacturer claimed that the publication used defective devices. While they failed the test, the phones were covered under warranty, so they can be replaced right away, according to Fortune. They are now conducting their own investigation to fix the issue.
The manufacturer also claimed that the phone follows an engineering standard called the IP68, which makes the phone both dust and water resistant. It was also designed to withstand immersion in five feet of water for 30 minutes. The publication used those specifications to test the phone.
The technicians from Consumer Reports placed the phone in a water tank, which was pressurized to 2.12 pounds per square inch, and then let it be immersed for 30 minutes. After the immersion, the phone was taken out from the tank and the first thing they noticed was the screen that was obscured by green lines. The publication even noticed tiny bubbles in the lenses of the front and rear cameras, and the touchscreen was not responsive at all.
To confirm that the test was really successful, the technicians tested a second S7 Active to the same test. The second phone had failed as well after they took it out from the water tank. The screen turned on and off for a while, and they could see moisture from the front and back camera lenses.
The phones were turned on again after a few days from the tests, but it would only light up with no displays after they were plugged in. The publication concluded that the two phones failed miserably with the specifications that the manufacturer provided to the public.
Surprisingly, the other two versions of the Samsung Galaxy S7, which are the standard version, and the S7 edge, passed the tests. The manufacturer also claimed the same level of resistance against water. The publication rates these two phones as highly recommended devices, with high scores for its attributes.
