Evolve Stage 2 players skyrocket by over 13000% after free to play release on Steam

2K and Turtle Rock Studios have decided to make Evolve free to play as the Evolve Stage 2 beta for PC gamers through Steam and the number of players have skyrocketed.

Evolve was considered to be a dying game because of the extremely low number of players across platforms. Most of the blame are cast on the extremely expensive DLC expansion packs and the price of the game itself which costs $60.

Now, Evolve Stage 2 Beta aims to help put more players in and it seems to have a great effect on the game so far. The all-time peak of the game easily reached more than 51,000 players which is an impressive feat for a game that has been re-released as free to play for less than a week.

Evolve Stage 2 is now just below Civilization V at top nine of the most played games on Steam, Forbes has learned. At the top is Dota 2 followed by Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Grand Theft Auto V at top three.

The game is a multiplayer shooter that puts one player against four others. For some, the gameplay might be best described as Left 4 Dead but the only enemy is one huge tank which is another player.

Most of the games in Evolve Stage 2 are just quick especially if the monster player knows what to do. Team play is crucial for the hunters as they can quickly be wiped out if they do not know how to properly take down the monster.

Evolve's player base has now blew up by more than 13,000 percent since they have gone free to play as Evolve Stage 2, TweakTown reported. The figures continue to climb and everyone is expecting whether it will hold or if it will slow down quickly as it went up.

Free to play games allow everyone to enjoy the game without having to dish out money. However, there are still some in-game purchases which could make Evolve Stage 2 a pay to win type of game in the long run.

Evolve Stage 2 is now free to play on Steam for PC users. The console users will have to wait until the beta stage is finished as Turtle Rock Studios also plans to roll out the new free to play version to their consoles.
