Since the latest iMac was just launched in October 2015, tech observers are not expecting a new iMac so soon, but all is still possible. Nonetheless, tech world is still excited about the rumor that iMac 2016 will be equipped with newest processors and will be packed with a virtual reality (VR) ready interface, as reported by MacWorld.

Tracing back Apple Inc.'s history with Intel processors, it can be recalled that the Cupertino tech giant did not use Broadwell for its 2015 devices. They instead went from Haswell chipset to the most latest Skylake processors.

For iMac 2016 processor, it may be the newest of Intel, the Kaby Lake, which is slated to be released before the year ends - that is if the iMac 2016 will be launched this year. If not, Apple Inc. may skip Kaby Lake and go straight with the next chipset after Kaby Lake, the Cannonlake, which is up for a late 2017 release.

What's the real deal between the two upcoming processors? Kaby Lake will reportedly share the same 14nm process currently used by Broadwell and Skylake, while Cannonlake has 10nm more accurate process.

Another hit feature for iMac 2016 is the graphics chips from AMD's Polaris set as confirmed by a report from WCCF Tech. It was April 2016 when sources affirmed that AMD has won the contract with Apple Inc. in October 2015.

According to the deal, the two Polaris chipsets: Polaris 10 and Polaris 11, announced early this year, will reportedly incorporated with the new desktop and notebook devices the Cupertino-based tech firm will be releasing before the year ends. These devices possibly include iMac 2016, MacBook Pro 2016 and MacBook Air 2016.

Aside from better graphic performance and reduction of power consumption and waste heat, the new Polaris chips will reportedly allow devices to become virtual reality (VR) ready. This is in line with AMD's previous statements that their new chipsets will pave the way for more PC users to use the trending technology called VR.

If proven true, this will mean that iMac 2016 will be Apple's first virtual reality ready device.
