Nintendo has just confirmed the bad news that the mini NES product will only be able to play the 30 classic games that it comes with and that old cartridges will not work too.

When Nintendo announced the mini NES console, old school gamers have become excited as they would finally relive their favorite NES classics such as Super Mario or the various Metroid titles. However, it turns out that it will be limited to the games that are installed inside the device.

Nintendo's mini NES console costs $60 and it will come with 30 classic NES games that players can choose from. A spokesman for Nintendo told Kotaku that the mini NES will not be able to connect to the Internet to play more games.

The Japanese video game company said that the mini NES is a "standalone device" which means that it cannot connect to the Internet or support any external storage device such as a USB flash stick or a microSD card. Players won't be able to download other NES games and to play them on the mini console.

Nintendo could also just be testing the waters for a set top box TV with their mini NES product, The Next Web reported. It is no secret that Nintendo is going out of the way to find new sources of income for the company with the Pokémon GO app as a huge example.

Nevertheless, it is still disappointing for those who wanted to enjoy the nostalgia playing the mini NES with other games. Nintendo does assure that their roster of classic NES games will provide "top quality, long-lasting game-paly experiences."

People have also wondered if they will be able to play their old NES cartridges with the new mini NES but Nintendo said that the Chamber Lid does not open and is just a design. That means players will really be stuck with the 30 NES games saved inside the system.

Nintendo has also not confirmed nor deny whether there will new mini consoles such as the mini-N64 or mini-SNES. The NES Classic will be sold for $60 starting on November 11.
