AMD has recently announced that they are proud of being Microsoft's partner in providing the technology needed to push the Xbox One S and the Project Scorpio forward in its development.

Microsoft has recently announced their new and upcoming upgraded Xbox dubbed as Project Scorpio which is being marketed for "true 4K gaming" with its more powerful hardware compared to the original Xbox One thanks to new tech from AMD. While it has not been officially confirmed yet, many already believe that the new console from the Redmond-based company will be using a modified version of the Polaris 10 GPU.

AMD CEO Lisa Su told investors that they are proud to be working with Microsoft on the Xbox One S and the Project Scorpio, Gamepur has learned. She also said that the Project Scorpio will leverage AMD's gaming technology in order to dish out 4K performance as well as VR gaming experiences, which is something that has been a vague topic from Microsoft as they have no announcements on a VR headset yet.

The AMD RX 480 that was recently released can already handle the load for VR games through the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift headset. It could mean that the Xbox Project Scorpio could handle VR too but Microsoft has not given any details regarding VR so far and has even said that they do not want to be distracted in their goals.

AMD's Su has also refused to disclose anything regarding the Xbox Project Scorpio's price, GamingBolt reported. They also did not reveal the exact release date in 2017 and other detailed technical specs regarding the upgraded Xbox One console.

They did tease that there is "more compatibility" on their chip. Su did not expound on the topic further but it does raise some interesting concerns.

There could be a possibility that the chip could allow Xbox Project Scorpio to play Windows games as well considering that Microsoft is already trying to unify the experience across all of their products. However, that is still a far-end possibility as that would defeat the purpose of console gaming itself.

Microsoft is expected to launch their new Xbox Project Scorpio in the holiday season of 2017. They could release more details before then along with AMD.
