Archie Comics will end its "Archie" series after more than 70 years with "Archie #666" hitting stores on June 3, Comic Book reported.
With past "Archie" creators Fernando Ruiz, Tom DeFalco, Dan Parent, and Pat and Tim Kennedy, the "Archie #666" issue will reflect on the long comic book history of "Archie" featuring six interlocking Parent covers.
After ending in "Archie #666," the series will have a reboot in a new "Archie #1" with the classic characters recreated for a new generation by artist Fiona Staples and writer Mark Waid.
In 2014, the sale of an 'Archie' comic book was banned by state media censors in Singapore because of its depiction of same-sex marriage, which is still considered taboo in the country, Time has learned.
The third installment of "Archie: The Married Life" was published in 2013. It is part of a series that features Archie Andrews' life after he graduates from high school.
It also features the iconic character taking a bullet for his friend Kevin Keller, a gay United States senator, from an assassination attempt. Before this, Keller got married to his African-American boyfriend Clay Walker.
Created in 2010, the first openly gay character in the series earned writer Dan Parent a GLAAD Media Award in 2012.
According to the Media Development Authority of Singapore, the book was assessed after the receipt of a complaint and concluded that its content is "in breach of guidelines because of its depiction of the same-sex marriage of two characters in the comic."
