The San Antonio Spurs could consider trading for Greg Monroe as the team looks to fill the void left by Tim Duncan.

The Spurs are now without Duncan, who announced his retirement earlier this month after 20 seasons with the team. Despite the signing of Pau Gasol and Dewayne Dedmon, it still leaves the Spurs with a huge hole to fill at the center position.

With the market already dried up of talented big man, the Spurs could consider exploring trades. One possible option the team may consider is Milwaukee Bucks center Greg Monroe, who is one of the prominent NBA veterans available in the market, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

According to Sam Amico of Amico Hoops, the Spurs are among the teams interested in trading for Monroe, whom the Bucks seem to deal after struggling to fit in Milwaukee's system.

Monroe, who averaged 15.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game for the Bucks last season, would be the perfect player to replace Duncan due to the former's old-school back-to-the-basket skillset. His offensive repertoire inside the paint should instantly see him a strong fit in the Spurs' rotation of talented big men in Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Monroe's defense would surely be an issue as the Spurs' have always pride themselves a well balanced team on both ends of the floor, but it is something he can improve, especially under the tutelage of Greg Popovich.

However, the Spurs do not have much pieces to offer the Bucks in a potential trade for Monroe, unless San Antonio is willing to part ways with All-Star point guard Tony Parker, which is highly unlikely to happen.

A package consisting of Danny Green and Patty Mills technically works on ESPN's trade machine, although it is unsure whether the Spurs are willing to give up two of their key players essential to San Antonio's success in recent years.

The Spurs seem geared up to start their campaign for the 2016-2017 regular season and should still find themselves on the upper half of the league rankings. But if the Spurs are hoping to topple super-teams like the Warriors and Cavs, adding a talent like Monroe should be one of their options.
