Fans are finally going to meet two of Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) family members in "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10. The casting news of the "Sons of Anarchy" and "Married with Children" alum Katey Sagal and "30 Rock" alum Jack McBrayer was confirmed at the show's Comic-Con panel.
Sagal will play Susan, which is described as "stressed out and neurotic from a life with her troubled son." McBrayer will play Randall, "a cheerful former drug dealer and ex-con." It is the first time for both characters to be seen on the series, and it is happening in "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10.
"We are finally going to meet more of Penny's family," Entertainment Weekly quoted executive producer Steve Molaro as saying. "We're going to be meeting Penny's mom and her brother in the first episode back. We're super excited that Katey Sagal will be playing Penny's mom."
"The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 marks a reunion for Cuoco and Sagal. In 2002, they played mother and daughter in the ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules."
Sagal and McBrayer will appear in the first episode of Season 10. Viewers are more likely to see Susan and Randall attending Penny and Leonard Hofstadter's (Johnny Galecki) wedding in episode 1.
Season 9 saw the introduction of other characters in the CBS comedy hit, including Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) meemaw played by June Squibb and Leonard's (Galecki) dad (Judd Hirsch). Hirsch's character as Dr. Hofstadter will be seen again in "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10.
As to whether Season 10 will be the show's last, Molaro gave a hanging answer. There have been speculations that the show may have its final run after the news came out that the lead cast's contract are expiring.
"I'm not gonna tell you, Variety quoted Molaro as saying. "There's been a few thoughts that have floated around, but we don't really know how long the show's going to go on for, so I think it's a little early for us to be thinking about an end point."
As of the moment, CBS has not confirmed anything if the series is going to extend for a few more months or years. "The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 is slated to air on Sept. 19 on CBS.
