"Castle" season 8 may have been cancelled since May, but some loyal fans of the once-hit ABC series are still hopefully that a ninth season will be picked up by another network.

Immediately after the network announced that "Castle" has already been cancelled, rumors regarding a possible spinoff started swirling online.

At that time, the speculations suggested that Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) will return to the series with his partners Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Ryan (Seamus Dever), but without his wife Kate Beckett (Stana Katic).

Unfortunately, the thought of not seeing Kate in the series didn't sit well with the fans who claimed that Rick wouldn't be Rick without his wife.

Meanwhile, Fillion recently spoke with TV Line at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con where he said that season 9 would've featured a five-year time-jump.

The actor confirmed that the producers and writers of the series were already throwing ideas before "Castle" was cancelled at the end of season 8. However, when they word that they will no longer be renewed, they didn't bother to reveal what would've happened to Rick, Esposito and Ryan.

"Yeah, they were talking about a time jump. I think they're reserving their plans for when we actually get the pickup. But when we didn't get the pickup, that's when they stopped making plans," he explained.

In other news, if "Castle" season 9 was indeed a go, there was in no way that fans would've still seen Kate in the series.

The actress was the first to announce that she will no longer return to the franchise even if it was renewed. Katic already had issues with her contract at the end of season 7, but she decided to stay in the series for another season.

Meanwhile, Fillion admitted that he misses his co-stars, but said that he doesn't need a proper send off from them or the creators of the series. After all, he was part of "Castle" for eight seasons and felt that when it was cancelled, it was already time for everyone to say goodbye to Rick and Kate.

"Castle" season 8 aired its finale episode in May 2016.
