It is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow and has the BlackBerry's software features like the Hub. The software is the same with the software on the Priv that was released in 2015. From the device's name itself, DTEK is BlackBerry's software that protects it users from malware and other security threats often detected on Android powered smartphones, The Verge reported.

The DTEK provides users an overview of their phone's security and fix any potential issues. BlackBerry has modified Android with its own technology that was originally created for BB10, making its platform more secure. The company also promised fast updates to provide security patches after the release.

Ralph Pini, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, Devices, BlackBerry said that they are serious when it comes to their customer's privacy. And this is why they are very excited with all the security and functionality of their latest Android smartphone. "This device adds to BlackBerry's lineup of secure smartphones, providing choice to our customers with different price points on both, BlackBerry 10 and Android platforms," he added.

DTEK50 supports BlackBerry's enterprise management solutions, providing a powerful smartphone capable of powering any work day. Its key features include Google Play for Work and Android for Work and Full Enterprise Mobility Management Support, as reported by Network Asia.

DTEK50 is now available for pre-orders at ShopBlackBerry.com for $299.99 until August 8, 2016. It is sold unlocked and will be compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T in the US.
