It is widely believed that Google will work with HTC in building the Nexus 2016, which rumors said will come out in two versions - the smaller Nexus Sailfish and the phablet-size Nexus Marlin. On release date, likely to happen this August, it's expected that the two devices will be the first to debut Android 7.0 Nougat.

Nougat environment

And the recent leaks offering glimpses of what the next Android will be also paint a picture of the Nexus 2016 in advanced. The latest info from Android Police indicated that the Stock Android device can be activated from sleep through double-tapping.

Previously in Marshmallow, the Nexus phone can be summoned back from deep slumber by simply picking up the device. When Nougat becomes operational, which should happen in the next few weeks, users have two easy ways to wake up the Nexus.

In the same report, Night Light seems to be fully integrated with Android 7.0 and the latest build will give users greater control of the feature like when they want it to get activated manually or schedule it in sync with the sun's movement.

The same publication has previously reported on subtle UI changes to come with Android Nougat that will only make the upcoming Nexus phones more appealing and the Nexus Launcher that obviously will be exclusive to Google's vanilla-flavored handsets.

Benchmark

As for the Nexus hardware, the latest hints came from a GFX Benchmark result that according to 9to5Google pretty much confirmed the rumored key specifications for the 5-inch Nexus Sailfish. To unbox with the device is the power combo of Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM, camera set up of 12MP on rear and 8MP on front and a 1080p display resolution.

The report added that the 5.5-inch Nexus Marlin will largely mirror the same specifications, only with a 2K screen resolution and a bigger battery at 3450mAh.

3D concept

The specs mentioned are of the insides of the Nexus and to complete the final cut that the device will be, YouTube channel Techconfigurations offered its vision of the more premium Nexus Marlin and the render that was showcased largely affirmed the specs attributed so far to the next Nexus but this time beautifully encased in stunning dark metal finish.

First discovered by Concept Phones, the Nexus Marlin concept (likely to look the same as the Sailfish but on downscaled version) below speaks for itself:
