It is unknown yet if the supposed February 2017 launch date for "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" legitimate since Aeon cinema removed it from their website. But, several anime films most notably the "Precure" franchise have listed February launch dates as "Spring", which happens to be the supposed release date mark for "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" so there is a possibility that it could premiere on Feb. 18, AnimeNewsNetwork reported.

"Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" will feature Kirito and his friends trying a new VMMORPG game called "Ordinal Scale" with the used of a new VR device called "Augma".

The design of the Augma VR gear looks like a pair of small earphones, although in terms of size and portability, it is far superior to the existing VR machine “Atmusphere”. The machine does not have a full-dive function from the previous devices, however, its AR function is greatly enhanced to compensate for it. It can transmit visual, audio and tactual sensation data to players while they are awake, thus enabling the users to enjoy fitness and health management like a game.

In "Ordinal Scale", players can raise their rank by collecting items that appear in various places in the real world and by defeating monsters. The ranking system features of the game are indicated by an ordinal number instead of a cardinal number. This resulted in high ranking players having overwhelming power and often rank has become a major factor in deciding the outcome of a PvP battle.

However, a new threat looms around in "Ordinal Scale" and it is up to Kirito, Asuna and the rest of the gang to stop it and prevent another "SAO" incident once more.

In other news, Skydance Television announced a live-action TV series of "Sword Art Online" as they have acquired the rights of the anime novel series in partnership with Kadogawa Corp.

"Avatar" film producer Laeta Kalogridis will write the script and produce the "SAO" live-action series alongside Skydance's team of David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross. However, a network has not been attached for the TV series, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

"Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale" will launch in Japanese cinemas sometime in 2017.
