Basis, and Intel-owned company issued a recall for all Basis Peak fitness trackers after reports of overheating. It was previously reported that the company had stopped the production and sales of the device due to the same issue.

According to the company, only 0.2 percent of the fitness trackers owners had experienced the device's overheating. Initially, Basis recommended owners not to use the device until a software update was available to solve the overheating issue. However, it seems that the problem is impossible to resolve, so Intel just decided to recall the product, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Basis Peak received well reviews when it was shipped and the device has been in the market for just 18 months. This proves the Basis' claims that only 0.2 percent of the devices are affected.

With the low number of the incident, it might be hard to Basis to identify the problem. Science and data gathering is going to be one of their problems because low probability events are really hard to distinguish.

Though the Basis Peak's sales was not really high, the device won accolades on its launch for being the first fitness tracker that is accurate in heart rate and sleep monitoring. It is unclear if Basis will still build products after the incident.

On their website, Josh Walden, Intel New Technology Group's Senior Vice President and General Manager is asking the owners to return the watch and authorized accessories as soon as possible for them to get a full refund. The company said that it was a tough decision but they prioritize the consumers' safety.

He added that while they are immediately stopping the Basis Peak, the users can still access their data until December 31, 2016. The fitness tracker device's service will be turned off after that date, and then the watch will no longer be able to sync making it to stop working.
