Sony has officially invited some journalists to an upcoming press conference on Sept. 7, which might reveal the upcoming PlayStation 4 Neo. An anonymous source revealed that the event will be a technical showcase.

According to Gameblog, the console manufacturer will reveal the first details of the upgraded PS4 at the event in New York City. The press conference will be before the start of the Tokyo Game Show, which starts on Sept. 15.

The invitations that the gaming company sent to the journalists only said a PlayStation Meeting. The publication speculated that the manufacturer will be a new gadget that will shock the gaming industry, since it will be showcased in a high-profile venue.

Different anonymous sources told Vice in a statement about the planned press conference, and maybe the grand reveal for the new machine. The publication clarified that their sources have chosen to remain anonymous. They are not authorized to speak publicly about the company's plans, which is why they will not reveal their identities.

A source has told the publication in a statement that the upcoming event will be a technical showcase. Sony has not publicly revealed what they will be revealing, and they are just finalizing what they are going to showcase at the event.

Another source has told the publication in a statement that the console manufacturer will be giving out the finalized development kits. These kits will be sent to the many game developers in the industry after the press conference.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House told the Financial Times in a pre-E3 interview and confirmed that they were developing an updated version of the PS4. The event did not show or mention the console, but he confirmed that Neo was the new code name for the new PS4.

House also confirmed that the new console will have enhanced Ultra HD 4K graphics. He added that this upgraded console will be similar and complement the standard PS4.

The upcoming console will not be called the PS5, but it will be the PS4.5 with upgraded graphics on existing games. It will also keep up with the compatibility with the game library between both levels of PS4 models. Some fans are hoping that it will offer a better experience on PlayStation VR.
