Sony could be finally unveiling their highly anticipated PlayStation Neo in September and the reason for the announcement delay is because they wanted to see what Microsoft's Xbox Project Scorpio could do first.

Microsoft was not the first to announce their upcoming console but they were the ones who did show off what the Project Scorpio can do during their E3 2016 conference. Sony just confirmed the PlayStation Neo does exist but they declined to show it off during the gaming expo.

Now, Sony seems about ready to show the PlayStation Neo specs and features for the public. Sony's PlayStation Neo is expected to be revealed in New York City on September 7 at exactly three in the afternoon, GMA Network has learned.

While it is not explicitly announced by the company, the so-called "PlayStation Meeting" at The PlayStation Theater is anticipated to be the reveal for Sony's new console. It could also get more attention as it will be an event of its own compared to E3 where the Project Scorpio shared the spotlight with other game companies and even the Xbox One S.

Sony could have just been waiting to see what Microsoft's new console can do before they reveal the PlayStation Neo which could now become more powerful than the Project Scorpio's six TFLOPs claim, Inquisitr reported.

There are no official PlayStation Neo specs yet but some reports already claim that it will also be able to play 4K games and that it will also provide better framerates for games that are just played at 1080p. Interestingly, that is also what the Redmond-based company is claiming with their Xbox Project Scorpio.

Still, Microsoft could have the last laugh as their console is slated for a 2017 release. Whatever the Sony PlayStation may have, they could still beat it with better specs for the Project Scorpio when it finally launches next year.

Sony is already expected to release the PlayStation Neo this fall. The unveiling could also reveal the final release date for the upcoming upgraded PlayStation 4 console and if it can really beat the Xbox Project Scorpio.
