The disappointment for Chinese fans at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics with the doping finding of swimmer Chen Xinyi and Sun Yang not qualifying for the 1,500 meters men’s freestyle was offset by the Chinese athletes winning gold in the women’s team sprint.

The Chinese women's team sprint, made up of Tiansh Zhong and Jinjie Gong, beat Russia with a time of 32.107, while the Russian team logged 32.401, reported Cyclingnews. The Chinese team should have won against Russia at the London 2012 Olympics, but they were disqualified for an illegal change.

The bronze went to Germany which edged out Australia. The Russian team was made of Daria Shmeleva and Anastasia Voinova.

According to The Southern Illinoisan, the Chinese team broke its own record in the semifinals with a faster time of 31.928 seconds by beating Spain and then the Russians.

Gong, a silver medalist at the London games, said, “We wanted to show the strength of the Chinese people.” She added, “Today we just wanted to achieve the best for ourselves — and conquer a world record.”

However, the bigger news in cycling is Great Britain taking the gold and setting a world record in men’s team pursuit. The team, made up of Bradley Wiggins, Steve Burke, Owain Doull and Ed Clancy, clocked 3:50.265. The silver went to Australia and the bronze to Denmark.
