Sony is planning to roll out the PlayStation 4 4.0 firmware update that will bring new updates to the user interface and other improvements that PS4 users will appreciate.

Others are excited for the unveiling of the PlayStation Neo in September but many are still loyal to their own PlayStation 4 consoles. Sony announced the beta phase of the PS4 4.0 firmware update wherein selected users will be able to try out the patch before it is released to the public.

One of the highlights of the 4.0 firmware update for the PlayStation 4 is the refresh for the UI. PS4 players will now get a new quick menu with a size that will not take up too much screen real estate, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has learned.

Players will be glad to receive the new quick menu as they will still be able to see their games in the background. Currently, the menu takes up the whole screen which obscures their view of the video game in the background.

There is also another new Share menu that is included in the update. It will allow PS4 players to uploaded a 140-second video on Twitter instead of the usual 10 seconds.

Another major change is that the maximum recording time for the gameplay videos has been upped to a whole hour, PlayStation Lifestyle reported. The change goes well with the new folders that allow users to sort their games, apps and other media stored in the hard drive of their PlayStation 4.

Sony is also introducing a new two-step authentication process for those who would really like to secure their accounts. The feature is being rolled out to select regions to users who are both on the PS4 4.0 firmware beta or not and it could be the company's initiative to prevent further attacks on the PlayStation Network.

There are also new trophy improvements which now allow users to see their Trophies even when they are not connected to the Internet. Icons have also changed so that players will be able to determine whether a trophy is rare or not.

PlayStation 4 users will just have to wait for the official public release of the 4.0 firmware update. The beta is still currently running.
