"Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong-Ki's promotional event in China has not been affected by the rising tension between South Korea and the former over Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD).

On Aug. 1, China's General Office of Broadcasting and Television ordered local broadcasters to control the extent of Korean idols and actors endorsement and other activities in the country. All Korean celebrities are currently prohibited from making guest appearances in any Chinese television shows and movies.

Despite the prohibitive measures against Korean idols' activities in China, the 30-year-old Korean actor attended Proya cosmetics promotional event on Aug. 16, Tuesday, alongside Chinese actress, Zhang Ziyi, 37. The event took place at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, Shanghai, China.

According to those who have attended the promotional event, as cited by All Kpop, the stadium was loaded with vigorous fans, who could not be more satisfied that they personally saw the "Innocent Man" actor. A series of pictures from the event was widely circulated on Twitter.

The news came after it was announced on Aug. 7 that the Hallyu star will not be endorsing China's mobile phone brand VIVO anymore, according to a local news outlet China Daily, as cited by The Kpop Herald. The mobile phone brand will remove Song's related CFs and advertisement and will pick another celebrity as their new endorsement model.

Since the termination of their endorsement contract was unexpected, Vivo stressed that they will be reimbursing Song with all the fees they owed to him. The actor's endorsement contract fee was said to be $3.3 million.

According to earlier reports, the "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" actor has been picked as Vivo's endorsement model since they believed that Song would draw in more young consumers due to his immense popularity as Captain Yoo Si-Jin (aka Big Boss) in KBS 2TV's "Descendants of the Sun."
