Audi has announced that they are going to introduce a technology that allows car to "talk" with traffic lights. This new technology can send warning to the drivers if they will not make it before the traffic light goes red or if it is turning green.

The car manufacturer said that the feature is intended to make driving easier. However, it is expected that this new technology can help decrease accidents and traffic congestion on highways.

The technology is called "vehicle-to-infrastructure" or "V-to-I." The A4 models that were built after June has this feature and Q7 models will have it in 2017. Audi said that the safety and other operational information will be transmitted between the car and the traffic light wirelessly over the cloud, BBC reported.

With this feature, the car is able to display a timer that tells when a red light will turn green that can reduce the anxiety of waiting. It can also signal the driver that they should hit the break if they will not be able to make it before the light turns red.

Audi is the first to use a traffic light recognition technology and it is planning to further its work, said David Bailey, a professor from Aston University. He also told BBC that it could benefit the ease of driving as it can signal a traffic light to switch to let the vehicle through while driving on a little traffic. However, Bailey added that the technology needs a huge investment in the infrastructure to make it viable in the UK.

Meanwhile, Audi is also working on a technology that will allow a vehicle to talk to another vehicle in order to avoid collisions. The technology is called "vehicle-to-vehicle" or "V2V system." It will let the vehicle warn the driver for possible accidents with other vehicle as reported by USA Today.

"Continuous innovation in connected car services and advanced driver assistance systems that enrich and improve the customer experience is at the core of the Audi brand and our collective future," said Scott Keogh, president of Audi of America.

Audi is now working with a firm called Traffic Technology Services to make their new system successful.
