Those who do not know ask: why is it so deadly? Experts at WebMD elaborated that one main reason is that most people simply ignore the possible warning signs. Or worse, they are not aware of the causes of chest pain in the first place.

Should you recognize any of the following signs, it is best to call medical assistance right away.

Breast Cysts

According to Mary Jane Minkin, MD of Yale School of Medicine, the levels of fluctuation of the hormones progesterone and estrogen during the menstrual cycle can lead to fibrocystic breast changes or simply called breast cysts. The lumps go away usually after the period, but can be painful.

Dr. Minkin says, "Indeed, many women do get periodic breast pain, and indeed many women can confuse it for cardiac-related discomfort." Minkin also added that the opposite can happen, unfortunately. For this reason, she recommends a physical exam right away.

Aortic Dissection

Aortic dissection could be the cause of pain in the chest, according to Mayo ClinicThis happens when the inner layers of the aorta separate, it can rupture the aorta because the in-between layers will be forced with blood.

Lung-Related Causes

There are a few lung problems that trigger chest pain, such as pulmonary embolism, which happens when there is blood clot in a lung artery. Another cause is collapsed lung wherein there is a leakage of air that goes into the space separating the ribs and the lung.

Muscle Problems

Sore muscles can also cause chest pain, which should not be disregarded by those who suffer persistent aches.

People should not disregard anything that is related to health, especially when it comes to chest pain and heart problems.
