Andy Murray looks to extend his winning streak when he battles Australian Bernard Tomic in the quarterfinal round of the Western & Southern Open on Friday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

On a day where top seeds were being upset, Murray prevailed as the lone top-seeded player in the tournament after defeating South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 6-3 6-2. Murray, who is coming off a Gold Medal finish at the 2016 Rio Olympics, proved too much for Anderson, winning a career-best 20th match in a row.

''I picked it up in Rio and only started feeling it on the flight coming over after the match,'' Murray said, reports Tennis. ''I sound worse today but I feel better.''

The top-seeded Murray will face Tomic, who edged fifth seed Kei Nishikori with a 7-6(1) 7-6(5) victory in a two-hour thriller.

Tomic's victory was just one of the trending upset in the tournament, following the exit of Rafael Nadal and Stan Wawrinka, who lost to Borna Coric and Grigor Dimitrov, respectively. It was also the Aussie's biggest win in five years since defeating Nishikori back in 2011 at Wimbledon.

However, Tomic is 0-4 all-time against Murray in their FedEx ATP Head2Head singles matchup. Their last meeting was at the Australian Open earlier this year, where the Scot dispatched Tomic in three-straight sets.

Murray should come up as the favorite over Tomic after two impressive outings at the Cincinnati Masters, but there could be another room for an upset if exhaustion catches the world No. 2.

Meanwhile, Murray and Tomic could face in the semifinals the winner between Milos Raonic and Dominic Thiem, two of the next generation stars competing in the quarterfinal round. Raonic defeated Japan's Yuichi Sugita 6-1 3-6 6-1, while Thiem advanced into the QF stage after Gael Monfils withdrew from the tournament due to back injury.
