"Blindspot" season 2 will introduce new information about Zapata (Audrey Esparza) and Reade's (Rob Brown) relationship even before they work together with Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) at the FBI.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Martin Gero said that there will an emotional storyline between the two characters. Unfortunately, the exec couldn't share any more details from the highly-anticipated scene.

"We have a great story for Rob and Audrey this year that I can't get into too much, but it's very emotional. It's a mystery within a mystery show and there's a lot of stuff going on between them," he said.

Previously, Zapata and Reade almost had a falling out after the latter felt that the former was hiding something from him. Reade has been very protective of Zapata and the other members of Weller's team so he takes it upon himself to ask them things every now and then.

Also in season 1, Zapata became involved with the villainous character Thomas Carter when the latter promised to pay Zapata's debts if she will gather information about Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander). Zapata agreed to help Thomas, and she also decided to keep it a secret from her entire team.

In season 2, it's possible that Weller, Jane and the rest of the FBI staff will find out the truth about Zapata's deepest and darkest secrets.

It's quite surprising to hear Gero say that Zapata will be thrilled to work with Jane again in the upcoming episodes despite their recent issues.

Zapata, Patterson and Reade are still unaware that it was Jane who killed their boss Bethany Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste). This is another major secret that will be disclosed in the upcoming episodes.

Meanwhile, "Blindspot" lead star Alexander described season 2 as an "emotional roller coaster."

In an interview with E! News, she said, "It's going to send you on a massive rollercoaster. We have a lot of new faces who are going to help clarify who Jane Doe really is."

At present, "The Good Wife" alum Archie Panjabi has already been cast to star in the hit NBC series.

"Blindspot" season 2 will premiere on NBC on Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. ET.
