Peru was stunned by lowly team Bolivia, 0-2, in the previous matchday on the road at the at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz to drop their fifth game in the ongoing CONMEBOL qualifiers, via Soccerway.

Los Altiplanicos' attacking midfielder Pablo Escobar and defender Ronald Raldes provided the two goals for the hosts at the 38th and 88th minutes as head coach Ricardo Gareca's squad was shutout for the second straight game.

It was also the second consecutive loss for La Blanquirroja after they were nipped by Uruguay, 0-1, during Matchday 6 in March of last year.

Team captain Paolo Guerrero only played 44 minutes in the said match, substituting for Andy Polo at the 46th minute and is expected to start again this time around for Coach Gareca.

Meanwhile, erstwhile tournament leaders Ecuador has dropped to fourth place in the overall standings after they were crushed by powerhouse Brazil, 0-3, at their own home field of Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito during the previous matchday as well, as per ESPN.

Returning Brazil captain Neymar scored a goal with a penalty kick at the 72nd minute while his Rio Olympics gold-medal winning partner Gabriel Jesus netted a double at the 87th and 90th+2 to hand head coach Gustavo Quinteros' squad only their second loss in the competitions.

La Tricolor initially led the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers after it opened the tourney with four consecutive victories over Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, and Venezuela before settling for a 2-2 draw with Paraguay in Matchday 5.

It was all downhill since then for Ecuador as they lost two straight. The team is tied on points with Uruguay and Colombia, but they have a lesser goal difference which relegated them to the fourth spot at the moment.
