Sony could be finally unveiling the PlayStation Neo on September 7 with their own press event and many are wondering whether it will be enough to take on the Xbox One S from Microsoft.
Both game consoles are expected to provide "true 4K gaming" as what Microsoft has been claiming for the Xbox One S. Although some are still skeptical considering that PC gaming rigs still struggle to reach a smooth 60 frames per second on 4K resolution.
The PlayStation Neo will reportedly be the first console to be launched by the end of the year. It is expected that the PlayStation Neo release date will be revealed on September 7 along with the specs and features, Pocket-Lint has learned.
Sony has already confirmed the PlayStation Neo's existence before E3 2016 but it did not make an appearance at the said event. The company wanted gamers to focus on their new video game titles instead for the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation VR.
Microsoft's Xbox One S and the Sony PlayStation could both be an alternate 4K Blu-Ray player because of its new tech capabilities. In terms of performance, it is still hard to gauge since neither one has fully revealed their specs for the consoles.
Sony could also unveil the PlayStation 4 Slim version instead of just the PlayStation Neo at their event, The Verge reported. The former will only be a different variant with a smaller form factor but the latter is an upgraded PS4 in terms of looks and performance.
There will be no exclusive titles for both the PlayStation Neo and the Xbox One S since they do not want to alienate the PS4 and Xbox One players. However, there mechanics are still unclear because the executives themselves do not know how to fully explain them.
Microsoft's Xbox One S is not expected to drop by anytime soon as the release date is pegged for a holiday 2017 rollout. Sony, on the other hand, is expected to reveal the PlayStation Neo on September 7 and possibly release it before the year ends along with the PlayStation VR and the PS4 Slim.
