While FX has been working hard to ensure the theme of "American Horror Story" Season 6 is kept a secret, rumors are now rife that the upcoming installment will be based on Stephen King's novel, "The Mist." Previously, most rumors focused on the cast members that would return to the show.
Rotten Tomatoes may have inadvertently unveiled the next theme for "American Horror Story" Season 6 after putting "American Horror Story: The Mist" as the title for the much-awaited season. However, the title was deleted hours later and replaced with "American Horror Story.'
The leak triggered some speculations among aficionados, with the flames being fanned even more when a Reddit user teased that he had seen a recent listing online for the upcoming installment as "American Horror Story: The Mist." FX CEO John Landgraf wanted to keep the theme a secret to increase the hype for the next season.
However, reports already started circulating on the internet, suggesting that there will be a devil theme in Season 6. In fact, co-creator Ryan Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2015 about a demon child.
With the inadvertent leak, fans are now wondering what "The Mist" could be based on. One of the theories of "American Horror Story" Season 6 is that the next installment will be based on a reputable master of horror and writer Stephen King's popular novel of the same title. The book was a trendy horror read back in the 1980s and it was adapted into a film, featuring Thomas Jane and Laurie Holden in 2007.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that the next "American Horror Story" will have most cast members reprising their roles. Some of the cast members making a comeback include Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, Matt Bomer, Evan Peters, Denis O'hare, and Leslie Jordan.
Fans should remain patient to find out whether or not "The Mist" will be a central theme in the upcoming sixth installment. "American Horror Story" Season 6 is slated to start airing on Sept. 14.
