Australian actor David Berry is joining the cast of "Outlander" Season 3 as Lord John Grey. Grey is an important character in the upcoming season, which is based on "Voyager," the third book in Diana Gabaldon's best-selling series.

As reported by EW, Lord John Grey is described as "a steadfast and honorable British subject, torn between a finely-honed sense of familial duty and a strong moral compass of right and wrong." Physically, the character is "boyishly handsome" and exudes an upper class upbringing. But the seemingly honorable gentleman got involved in a scandal that relegated him to the position of governor of Ardsmuir Prison in Northern Scotland.

It's in this very prison that Lord John Grey meets Sam Heughan's Jamie. According to TVLine, Grey is a closeted gay man who develops feelings for Jamie. They will most likely have an interesting interaction, but Jamie does not share the same feelings for Grey.

Berry's casting, however, was met with criticism from some fans who thinks the actor appears younger than the character he's supposed to portray. Berry stands at over six feet tall and has dark hair, whereas Grey is blonde and is only five and a half feet tall in the book.

Berry is popularly known for portraying James Bligh in the Australian TV series "A Place to Call Home." He's also a singer for Scream and Shout.

"Outlander" Season 3 is expected to pick up immediately after Claire travels through the stones to go back to her life in 1948. She's currently pregnant, and her absence has taken a toll on her marriage with her husband, Frank.

Meanwhile in the 18th century, Jamie faces the repercussions of his defeat at the battle of Culloden. He's also moping over Claire's absence.

Although Claire and Jamie will eventually find their way back to each other, it won't be an easy reunion. Some things may have changed and these will put a strain on their relationship.

Although Starz has not revealed that exact date for "Outlander" Season 3's return in 2017, fans can expect the Droughtlander to last shorter than the past ones, since production for Season 3 will begin much earlier.
