Avid fans have been wishing to see their favorite character Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) in the upcoming Season 5, but it seems all their hopes are going down the drain. Executive producer Jo Porter has come out to clarify on the fate of Bea.

Rumors are rife that "Wentworth" Season 5 will go beyond Bea's death. Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) killed the top dog inmate, making her some sort of tragic hero.

There have been speculations that possibly Bea will miraculously emerge in a hospital bed and that she might have survived the 12 deadly stabbings. It is believed that Bea could only have fallen into a coma and that it is just Will (Robbie Magasiva) and Vera (Kate Atkinson) who understand the real situation. Theories are also suggesting the likelihood that the tough woman will surface in Season 5 finale.

However, it now emerges that producers of the series took a big risk in killing Bea, who has been central to "Wentworth" since its inception, consequently closing her story arc in the critically acclaimed jailbird drama. Porter said in a statement via News AU that it was a hard decision for them to bid goodbye to the fan-favorite and revered character.

"This decision was particularly hard as it meant also saying goodbye to Danielle Cormack," Porter said. She emphasized that Cormack has played a critical role in making "Wentworth" what it is today.

With that now clear, aficionados are now clamoring for details on the release date of the fifth installment in "Wentworth." SoHo still has to make an announcement, but the exact date will most likely fall in April 2017, according to FX News Call.

Now that Season 5 release date is being kept under wrap, fans do not know what will happen to the characters next year. The only surety is that Bea's position as the top dog will be vacant and someone should fill it soon. Likely candidates for the role are Ferguson and Karen "Kaz" Proctor (Tammy MacIntosh), and therefore, the two are sure to return to the popular show.
