"Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker has bagged a new movie role. The actress is reteaming with AMBI pictures for an untitled drama, in which she will play a New York chanteuse, who wrestles with the implications of a serious health issue.

The 51-year-old actress will be seen in the role of a New York performer named Vivienne in the untitled film that she developed, The Hollywood Reporter reported. In addition to starring in the film, the actress will also sing for the role.

The screenplay of the drama has been done by Laura Eason, who also wrote the script for hit US TV drama "House of Cards." The shooting for the movie will begin in New York this winter.

French filmmaker Fabien Constant, who is known for his work on several documentaries about fashion and popular culture, including "Mademoiselle C," will be directing the movie. Parker also will serve as the movie's producer alongside Alison Benson, Iervolino and Bacardi.

The project has been developed by the actress and Benson at Pretty Matches Productions and is being fully financed by AMBI Group. The movie will be introduced to the buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Parker is returning to HBO in a new comedy series "Divorce." In her first lead series role since "Sex And The City" ended 12 years ago, she will be playing Frances, an executive recruiter who lives in a picturesque Westchester County home with her husband Robert (Thomas Haden Church), and their two children. The couple's almost loveless marriage is drifting in a state of inertia when an incident at a friend's party spurs Frances to ask for a divorce.

Talking about the show, the actress revealed that she was curious about exploring "marriage and everything that meant" in a TV series since a long time. She was admittedly hugely influenced by "An Unmarried Woman," Paul Mazursky's groundbreaking 1978 film about a woman's rebirth following the end of her marriage.

"I probably watch that movie every few years, easily," Parker told Los Angeles Times. "There was a time when we talked about normal lives and we found all sorts of virtue in those stories."

"Divorce" is set to premiere on HBO on Oct. 9. Watch the recently-released trailer below:
