"The Winds of Winter" releaser date details remains a subject of wild speculations and lately, author George R.R. Martin is not even hinting anything solid on the sixth installment of his "A Song of Fire and Ice" book series. However, GRRM seems to confirm that there is a chance for a "Game of Thrones" spin off, specifically a prequel.

With GoT again bagging the Emmys' Outstanding Drama Series, Martin has all the reasons to further capitalize on the runaway success of the HBO television series. And Martin said that he is all set to stretch what viewers have already seen after six seasons.

Game of Thrones will run for two more seasons though showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have made clear that the last two chapters will be shorter than the first six. Season 7 will likely unpack only seven or eight episodes and will premiere a bit later than usual.

For Season 6, the most that HBO will air is six episodes, somehow raising questions if the materials available will suffice for GoT fans to see more of Westeros beyond 2018.

Yet Martin says so, according to Deadline. The GoT creator appears pretty confident that if Benioff and Weiss will wish so, the saga of the Seven Kingdoms can still be seen even after the Game of Thrones, Season 8. GRRM looks forward to seeing on the small screen the backstory that led to the struggles for the Iron Throne.

"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there," Martin told Deadline, and adding: "I'm writing more."

But truth to be told, a prequel for Game of Thrones is not yet even in the pipeline. In the first place, Benioff and Weiss have already declared that they will not be part of the project. Someone else has to take charge in the event HBO will pick up on what Martin has teased about.

And Martin, in fact, has tons of pressing commitments calling for his immediate attention. "At the moment we still have this show (Game of Thrones) to finish and I still have two books to finish," GRRM admitted.

For sure, one of the books that beg to be completed is the much delayed The Winds of Winter. Recent rumors have indicated that release date will happen March 2017, per an Amazon France slip, but both Martin and his publisher made clear that nothing is definite except that the book will most surely come out ahead of the start of Game of Thrones Season 7 broadcast next year.
