Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce was all over the news on Sept. 20, Tuesday, but no one told George Clooney about the split, judging by his reaction to the news.
Clooney, 55, found out about the divorce at the Leaders Summit for Refugees held at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, when a CNN reporter asked the actor about his thoughts on the dissolution of Pitt and Jolie's marriage.
"What happened?" Clooney asked shockingly. "I didn't know that. I feel very sorry then. That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that."
"This is the first I've heard of it," he added.
Clooney and Pitt, 52, have been friends for more than a decade. The two have even worked together in "Ocean's Eleven" (2001), "Ocean's Twelve" (2004), "Ocean's Thirteen" (2007) in addition to "Burn After Reading" (2008).
Jolie, 41, filed for divorce from the "Fight Club" actor in court on Sept. 19, Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. In her court documents, the actress noted that she and Pitt had been separated since Sept. 15 and asked the judge for physical custody of their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox without child or spousal support.
"I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," Pitt said in a statement to People. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Pitt and Jolie, who starred in the 2005 action-comedy "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," hit it off during the filming of the movie while the actor was still married to former wife Jennifer Aniston. Pitt and Aniston filed for divorce in 2005 and the actor secretly tied the knot with Jolie in 2014 following a two-year engagement.
