Chinese actress Jing Tian has been confirmed as the latest addition to the cast of the upcoming second installment in the "Pacific Rim" franchise. This will be her third English-language film.

Tian, whose credits include "Special ID" and the upcoming King Kong movie "Kong: Skull Island," will share screen space with John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny in the giant robots vs. monsters film, Deadline reported. No other details about Tian's role have been revealed. The 28-year-old actress has also featured in "New Police Story" alongside Jackie Chan and is set to make her English-language debut in Matt Damon starrer "Great Wall."

Tian's casting does not come as a surprise considering that "Pacific Rim 2" is being developed keeping the Chinese market in mind. China's Wanda group is handling the domestic distribution of the film along with Legendary Pictures.

Boyega will be playing the son of commander Stacker Pentecost, a character portrayed by Idris Elba in the original. The 2013 film also starred Charlie Hunnam, who will not be returning for the sequel. However, Guillermo del Toro teased the return of several other cast members.

"Spartacus" creator Steven S. DeKnight is helming the project "based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham," Legendary announced on Sept. 21, Wednesday. Derrick Connolly is penning the script based on an original draft by Jon Spaihts.

Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will serve as producers on the action-adventure movie along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions banner. Cale Boyter will serve as the movie's executive producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Pacific Rim 2" goes into production in November and the shooting locations include Australia and China. The film is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 23. 2018.
