YouTube sensation Yours Truly have taken their K-Pop cover dances from the streaming service to live stage performances. They won the 2015 K-Pop Battles XVIII: KCON Los Angeles. This year, they guest performed in the KPOPME-hosted Apink Pink Memory Tour and in the Toronto K-Pop Con - Canada Dream Stage.
The five-member girl group, which is based in Vancouver, Canada, became performance winners in the KBS K-Pop World Festival Seattle Prelims, according to Trend Blaze. They also joined the KBS K-Pop World Festival year and landed second in the United States Finals. They aim to be first next year in the World Finals in Korea.
Yours Truly started dancing K-Pop just for fun, but their following has grown rapidly which motivated them to aim higher. Thanks to their passion for dancing, K-Pop and Simon Fraser University Hip-Hop Club, they have achieved popularity in YouTube, with an initial 7,000 followers that have become more than 1.5 million.
The group consists of Theo, Stephanie, Frances, Kim and Kiki. Theo and Stephanie first met in 2009 in a K-Pop dance class. Frances, who attended a dance studio of Theo and Stephanie's friend was recruited for one of their covers. She was then brought in for more covers until she became a permanent member.
The rest of the group members met through the SFU Hip Hop Club. Together, the quintet just wanted to learn K-Pop dance moves, decided to film what they learned and shared it to the Internet. The girls are inspired by K-Pop due to the multi talents of the Korean idols who can dance, sing, produce their own music and choreograph their dance moves. Kiki was a fan of boy group SHINee in 2010 because their choreographer Rino Nakasone was her favorite dancer.
"Majority of these idols have been training since they were young and their hard work definitely pays off," Theo told The Peak when the latter reached out to the girls for an interview. "We love not only K-Pop but we also find Korean culture very interesting. We love the fashion, food, and history of Korea."
