Loosely based on the series by webcomic artist One and Eye-Shield 21 mangaka Yusuke Murata, One Punch Man will also be expanding its media reach after the staff announced a smartphone game app to be launched next year.

More details of the upcoming season will be announced soon, including its premiere date. Kaito Ichikawa, who served as the voice actor for Genos in Season 1, stated the release date of Season 2 will be in the near future, though many expect it to be around fall of 2017 the latest.

Already one of the most popular manga series in Japan before it got an anime version, One Punch Man becomes a global phenomenon when the anime series debut last year, from October to December 2015.

Studio Madhouse and director Shingo Natsume have done a superb job, putting together entertaining and action-packed episodes without losing the humor that sets OPM from other Shonen anime series. Viz Media and Daisuke streamed all 12 episodes of the series outside Japan during the initial run, while OPM with English-dub premiered on Toonami on its Adult Swim segment last July 16.

Potential story material for Season 2:

OPM Season 1 has already covered a major chunk of Murata's manga series, so it won't be surprising at all if Season 2 will deviate a bit from the main storyline. Nevertheless, OPM season 2 is expected to pick where Season 1 left off in the aftermath of Saitama's battle with God-level monster Boros.

Gorou, the former disciple of no.3 hero Bang, will be the series' main villain throughout the Human Monster saga and perhaps the Monster Raid arc, which Murata is currently working on.
