Many PC makers and gamers believed that Nvidia's GeForce GTX Titan X was the furthest the graphics card manufacturer could go at least for this year. However, reports are rife that the GPU maker is developing another card that will compete against other older models.

Specifications leak posted on Overclock3D indicate that the upcoming GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will be a cut back version of the current GTX 1080. However, the former will have a few notable improvements from the GTX Titan X Pascal.

Most specifications for the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti are believed to be at par with those of the GTX 1080, GTX 1070, and Titan X. furthermore, reports suggest that as opposed to the steep-priced Titan X, the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti will be cheaper without compromising the quality.

While information is sketchy with regard to specs of the forthcoming graphics card, it was pointed out that the new card will be relatively faster as compared to the current high end Titan X. According to reports, the GTX 1080 Ti's boost and base clock speeds are timed at 1.6 and 1.5 GHz respectively, which are better than the Titan X's 1.4 and 1.5 base and boost clock speeds.

The Titan X may well appear to lord over the imminent GTX 1080 Ti since the former is reported to have processing speeds of up to 11 teraflops while the latter has just up to 10.8 teraflops. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is said to feature a total of 12 GB of video random access memory, which is almost the same with the Titan X, although the latter runs on GDDR5X while the former runs on GDDR5.

The upcoming GPU will still be an edge above the vanilla GTX 1080 because it will push a much higher 384 GB/s on a 384-bit bus like the GTX Titan X. The GPU developer, Nvidia, is yet to unveil the specific release date for the GTX 1080 Ti, but a report by PC Gamer indicated that the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) slated for January 2017 might include the release on the much-rumored GPU.
