Bethesda was the bearer of unfortunate news last month when the company announced that “Fallout 4” mods talks with Sony failed to gain ground. Sony will continue to block the mods and such has begged to ask the future of other games, particularly the anticipated “Elder Scrolls 6”.

According to Bethesda, mod support for its PS4 game titles such as “Fallout 4” and “Skyrim” Special edition will no longer be provided despite which was largely attributed to Sony’s not approving them. Though they didn’t get into detail, it was the ‘considerable time and effort’ they rendered which was seen as the reason behind.

With Sony putting its foot down, it now begs to ask how the nixing of mods will affect other game titles. “Fallout 4” and “Skyrim” are the ones out in the market right now and it looks like even “Elder Scrolls 6” may be affected as well.

“Elder Scrolls 6” is not expected until 2019 but like “Fallout 4” and “Skyrim” mods are likely to be a recourse by gamers who are given free reign over the things that they can create and do in-game. That said, Bethesda may have to find a way to make the game less expandable which is also risky considering it can hinder player interest.

Alternatively, Bethesda could stay the course and continue to double-down on mods for the PC and Xbox while leaving out PS4 versions, Gaming Bolt reported. With this tactic, they could end up pressuring Sony who could budge.

All that could start once “Elder Scroll 6” is ready for release. Should Bethesda go this course and limiting its availability or features on the PS4 consoles. Such could sway the tide in the favor of Bethesda and twist the arm of Sony into reconsidering the use of mods.

The whole row involving Sony is unlikely to push Bethesda to change its ways and how it handles its gaming player base. The only thing certain right now is that with mods out not working on the PS4, gamers who place a premium on mods can only do so on the Xbox and PC.
