OnePlus has confirmed that the Android 7.0 Nougat update will be soon arriving for OnePlus 3. It has also announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is coming to OnePlus X in the next week.
In the previous week, an unofficial Android 7.0 Nougat based on CyanogenMod CM14 ROM was rolled out for the users of OnePlus 3. The Chinese firm has confirmed through a AMA (ask me anything) session on Reddit that it is actively working on Nougat update for OnePlus 3 users.
It has not confirmed any details on the release of Android 7.0 Nougat update for OnePlus 2. OnePlus X is a midrange smartphone that was released in October 2015 with Android Lollipop OS onboard. The company has confirmed that Marshmallow update would be coming to OnePlus X in the next month.
The Marshmallow update will be the last major Android update for OnePlus X owners. The reason behind it is that the smartphones powered by Snapdragon 800 and 801 chipsets are not supported by Nougat OS.
To be precise, the graphics drivers of these Snapdragon chipsets are not compatible with Nougat. Hence, the OnePlus One smartphone is also not going to receive Android 7.0 Nougat update.
During the AMA session, OnePlus has also cleared some of the rumors surrounding its upcoming devices. It revealed that it has no plans to release a OnePlus smartwatch.
The company has also said that it won't releasing devices with other operating systems such as Windows 10 and Ubuntu, Phone Arena reported. It means it will continue to launch smartphones with Android OS. OnePlus has also previously confirmed that it won't be releasing a successor model for OnePlus X.
OnePlus representatives did not speak anything on the successor model for OnePlus 3. However, the rumor mill has already started to talk about the alleged specs and features of OnePlus 4.
The OnePlus 4 is rumored to feature a 3D Touch display that supports Quad HD resolution. It is pegged to be fueled by Snapdragon 830 chipset.
Even though OnePlus 3 arrive in one variant, speculations indicate that the OnePlus 4 will be available in two RAM variants. The 6 GB RAM model is expected to arrive with 128 GB storage and the 8 GB variant is rumored to include 256 GB storage.
Other features include ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, 21 or 23-megapixdl camera. It is expected to release by the end of the second half of 2017.
