Before the first part of season 4 ended, viewers witnessed a battle between Lagertha and Queen Aslaug. When their encounter concluded, Lagertha was left heavily injured and was already on the verge of death. But things may favor her when the second half of the season returns as it has been reported that she will become the new queen.

When both women fight for the queen's throne, it is said that Lagertha will triumph over the reigning Queen Aslaug. Despite Ragnar being dead, Aslaug still wanted to keep the throne but Lagertha will try to argue with the former that she is more fitting to be queen especially that she is King Ragnar's wife.

These speculations may also be supported with the show's trailer that was released during the San Diego Comic Con. In the short clip, it was evident an aggression between Aslaug and Lagertha will be witnessed once season 4B airs. In addition, Katheryn Winnick who plays as Lagertha has already hinted her character will be making a strong comeback in the upcoming season.

The actress confirmed a looming fight between the two women but also dismissed the idea to entertain such speculations as there had been a six-year time gap between the last season and the upcoming one. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Winnick said, "It's going to be a catfight. The two power women go head to head. It's a really interesting scene because you don't expect what happens."

Meanwhile, it has been reported by the same publication that season 4B will also focus on Ragnar's history and back story. Creator Michael Hirst confirmed a few details for the show's upcoming arc and he revealed that Ragnar's sons will have the intention to kill him.

After a few years of not returning back from his fight with Rollo, his sons would only know a little history about him which would convince them to kill him. Ragnar on his part returns, older and only waiting to be killed by someone who would claim his throne.
