The upcoming shark epic movie "Meg" starring Jason Statham, Ruby Rose and many others is currently filming in New Zealand. Residents at Gulf Harbour and Matakatia Bay have witnessed crew and cast members working on the Warner Bros. flick for the past week.

About 40 crew members were spotted on a single big ship working. With them were cameras and a helicopter which was in and out of the shore.

The stars of "Meg" including Statham and Rose have been seen in Auckland. Statham was spotted in Ponsoby while Rose was outside a RUBY store. Statham's partner Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also enjoyed coffee and smoothie at Dear Jervois, Herne Bay, New Zealand.

Written by Erich Hoeber, James Vanderbilt, Belle Avery, Jon Hoeber and Dean Georgaris, "Meg" is directed by Jon Turteltaub and has a budget estimate of about $150,000,000. It is an adaptation of Steve Alten's 1997 novel, "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror."

The movie is about an expert sea diver being forced to take risk when a submersible was disabled at the Mariana Trench bottom. He confronted his fears to find out if the most huge marine predator Carcharodon Megalodon is still alive and threatening.

The diver is a former Navy whose military career was disgraced when his team was destroyed by a 60-feet-length prehistoric shark called Megalodon. Hence, confronting the giant underwater beast again gives him a chance at redemption.

The upcoming horror beast film capitalizes on the immense success of action films like "Fast and Furious" and features that deal with huge creatures like "Jurassic World." It reportedly took 20 years for the "Meg" project to gain traction, and it had gone through different writers and directors.

Producing "Meg" are Colin Wilson, Belle Avery and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura while Gerald Molen, Barrie Osborne, Wei Wayne Jiang and Randy Greenberg are executive producing. Co-financers are Flagship Entertainment, Warner Bros Pictures and China Media Capital division Gravity Pictures, Deadline reported.
