SM Entertainment has released an official statement on the condition of EXO member Lay, whose real name is Zhang Yixing. The singer suffered a health scare before boarding his flight to Japan.

On Oct. 11, Lay lost consciousness minutes before his flight was scheduled to take off from Incheon airport. The artist was travelling to Hokkaido, Japan to perform at EXO's upcoming solo concert, according to All Kpop.

Upon fainting, Lay was immediately rushed to a hospital. Several EXO fans present at the airport to send off the boy band posted eyewitness accounts of the scary incident on social media.

Lay's fellow band members also decided to stay by his side and miss their flight to Japan. The musician's agency has now shared an update on the singer's health.

"Lay momentarily fainted due to a lack of sleep, SM Entertainment said in a statement obtained by Soompi. "According to the doctor, he will be fine after getting plenty of rest." The agency further noted that the 25-year-old will be heading back to the dorm in order to get some rest.

EXO's upcoming solo concert was scheduled for Oct. 12 and 13 at the Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena. EXO's other members will be heading to Japan and the performance will go on as scheduled, however it remains to be known whether Lay will be joining them.

According to SM Entertainment, Lay is determined to perform with the group but that decision will be made after taking his condition into consideration. "He has a strong intent on joining the concert, so we plan to make the final decision after checking his condition," the label said.

This is not the first time Lay has suffered such a health scare. In 2015, the singer fainted on the set of a Chinese variety show due to over exhaustion and fatigue.
